Lime Spreading Across East Yorkshire
Soil-test-led pH correction, competitive prices, fast turnaround. Blanket or variable-rate — we cover the Wolds, the coast and everywhere in between.
If pH is below 6.5, you’re paying for fertiliser the crop can’t fully use
Pretty much every Yorkshire arable rotation benefits from regular liming — and the difference between a well-targeted application and a generic one is real money on the bottom line.
Bluestone offers both blanket and variable-rate lime spreading across East Yorkshire, integrated with our soil testing service so the rate is based on actual field data, not a guess. We source lime from local quarries, share the neutralising value and moisture content with you before order, and spread by appointment around your cropping windows.
Because we handle soil testing, planning and spreading in-house, there’s one conversation, one set of records, and no awkward handovers between different contractors.
Blanket or variable-rate — what’s right for your field
Blanket Spreading
A single rate applied uniformly across the field. Quick and cost-effective when the field is uniform in pH and soil type, or where you’re correcting a heavily acidified field that needs a straightforward maintenance application.
Variable-Rate Spreading
Different application rates driven by a pH map from grid or zone-based sampling. Avoids over-liming alkaline patches, uses your sampling data properly, and on larger hectarages the saving on lime pays for the mapping.
Soil-Test-Led Rate Planning
Target pH, lime quality (neutralising value), soil texture and existing pH all feed into the rate. We stage applications realistically rather than recommending a single heavy hit that risks over-correction.
Independent Lime Sourcing
We source from local quarries — ground limestone, magnesian/dolomitic where Mg is short, and granulated products for faster-acting in-crop top-ups. We recommend the right one for the field, not the one with the best margin for us.
Spreading Records
You get a clean record of what went where — rates, product, date, field reference. Useful for nutrient-management plans, SFI compliance and Red Tractor / Farm Assured audits.
Flexible Timing
Classic windows are post-harvest (Aug–Oct), late winter/early spring (Feb–Mar), and pre-drilling on uncropped land. We book slots constantly — if you know a field needs lime, get the quote in early to secure your window.
Independent, BASIS-qualified advice for East Yorkshire farms — no tied merchants, no product targets.
How a Bluestone lime job works
Soil Test
We start with a current pH map. If your sampling is older than 3–4 years it’s worth refreshing — we can handle this alongside the lime job.
Rate Planning
Target pH, lime quality, soil texture and existing pH feed into the application rate. We quote lime type and NV before the order is placed — no surprises.
Spreading
GPS-guided spreading by appointment around your cropping windows. Variable-rate map loaded direct to the spreader where applicable. Local kit means short travel times.
Records Delivered
Clean records of rates, product and field coverage delivered after the job — ready for your nutrient plan, SFI compliance folder or Red Tractor audit.
