What farmers across East Yorkshire and the Wolds say about working with Bluestone.
“Jon walks our ground like it’s his own. Switching to independent advice cut our spray bill noticeably in the first season — we’re buying what the crop actually needs now, not what a rep wants to shift. Straight-talking and always at the end of the phone.”
“The variable-rate lime plan Bluestone put together paid for itself. Our pH was all over the place across the heavier ground and we’d been blanket spreading for years. Proper soil data and a clear plan made the difference — wheat’s evened right up.”
“Got our SFI26 application sorted without the usual headache. Jon mapped the actions to fields that actually suited them and handled the paperwork. Knows the coastal ground here better than anyone we’ve dealt with.”
Independent agronomy across East Yorkshire
Based at Swine near Driffield, we cover a 30-mile radius of East Yorkshire and the Yorkshire Wolds — from the chalk uplands to the Holderness Plain. Find out about our local knowledge for your area:
Why East Yorkshire farms choose Bluestone
Five things that set us apart from the alternatives — and they are not marketing lines, they are just how we work.
- Genuinely independent — no tied product lists, no manufacturer targets, no kickbacks. Our recommendations are driven by your crop, your soil, your margins.
- Local — based at Swine, on your farm, not on a phone 200 miles away. We know the Wolds, the Vale and the Hull Plain.
- Qualified — BASIS and FACTS across the team. Advice you can act on and defend at a farm inspection.
- Practical — Yorkshire ground knowledge, plain English, no jargon. We tell you what matters and skip what does not.
- Joined-up — soil testing feeds into nutrient plans, which feed into lime and fertiliser orders. One relationship, one thread running through your farm.
Jon Page — Independent Agronomist
Jon started working on farms at thirteen and has not missed a harvest on someone else’s land since. He qualified as an agronomist in 2014 and spent the next nine years building a reputation for straight-talking advice across East Yorkshire — before starting Bluestone in 2023 to do it properly, on his own terms.
Being independent matters. Jon isn’t tied to any manufacturer or merchant, which means he recommends whatever is genuinely right for your farm at the best price available — not what someone has told him to push. He also manages Abbey Garth Farm himself, a Crown Estate holding with both arable crops and livestock, so the advice comes from someone making the same calls on their own ground every season.
